Math Mondays will be the Memorial Middle School sponsored and parents volunteered program to prepare students for the AMC 8 and MATHCOUNTS Competition, which are the math competitions held for students in the sixth, seventh or eighth grade. We will meet on Mondays after school from 3:30 to 4:25 and will focus on math problem solving. Students will work together to solve problems and improve math skill.

The AMC 8 contest will be held at Memorial Middle School on November 14th 2017 after school. The MATHCOUNTS Competition will be held in February 2018. Further details will be provided during the Math Mondays meetings.

The Math Mondays is the volunteer parent organized program. The parents of the participating students are expected to take turns to help running the Monday’s meeting. If you are interested and your parents are able to volunteer, ask your parents to send email to daliu@yahoo.com to register or ask questions.

The AMC 8

The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills,. The AMC 8 provides an opportunity for middle school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. Students apply classroom learned skills to unique problem-solving challenges in a low-stress and friendly environment.

The MATHCOUNTS

The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is a national program that provides students the opportunity to compete in live, in-person contests against and alongside their peers. Created in 1983, it is the longest-running MATHCOUNTS program. MATHCOUNTS competitions are provided at four levels: school, chapter, state and national. Top individual students and teams in a level will advance to next level. Each level of competition is comprised of 4 rounds—Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown Round.
